As is the custom in Knaresborough – on Saturday 9 June the Great Knaresborough red Race will take place. This is a day when the town is buzzing with people, the food outlets are bursting at the seams and strange things happen within our quiet little town.
For weeks we have been seeing people racing empty beds around the town in preparation for the event – on 9 June the whole thing becomes alive.
From 9am the beds begin to gather on the Castle Top, with the runners dressed in interesting, sometimes whacky attire – this year the theme is ‘A night at the Theatre’ and I am sure anyone visiting our town will not be disappointed with the procession which begins at 1.00pm. Later in the day, the runners set off with their bed for a gruelling race around the town culminating in a cross through the River Nidd. All of this takes place thanks to the hard work of the Lions and the generosity of the town.
At Knaresborough United Reformed Church, we have will be opening our building from 10.00am-3.00pm and will be serving tea/coffee/juice and biscuits – there will be no charge for this and you are welcome to pop in for a rest and to use our toilet facilities.
It would be great to see you!
