Church Open for Bed Race Day

Our church will be open on Saturday 8th June on Bed Race Day. There will be refreshments and comfort facilities from 12.00 noon till 4.00pm. All are very welcome, please do come in and join us for a cup of tea or coffee and a sit down!

Outside our church you will see a bed which is our Prayer Bed. There are ribbons available for anyone to tie a ribbon to the bed and say a prayer for whatever reason they may have. It could be ” a thank you, in remembrance, for someone who is ill, who is worried or stressed, for children or loved ones”. Please feel free to come and spend a few moments in reflection at the Bed on this day.
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race is one of the most spectacular events held in Knaresborough. It first began in 1966 and has never been cancelled. 90 teams of 6 runners and a passenger in a “bed” take part in a fancy dress pageantry (Yorkshire is the theme) before the event. The race itself is timed and teams set off at 10 second intervals.
The 2.4 mile course takes them from Conyngham Hall, through Nidd Gorge, up to the Market Place and Castle. They then go down the High Street to Bond End, across High Bridge and finally have to endure a 30 yard swim with the “bed” through the River Nidd.
The event begins in the morning when the beds are on display before the race at the castle. It is staged by the Knaresborough Lions to raise money for good causes.
