Posada Service – 24th December

  • mary and joseph

Our Posada Service originated in Mexico where it is tradition to carry effigies of Mary and Joseph  around to neighbours and friends in a town or village. We have copied this idea initially by sharing Mary and Joseph amongst ourselves within our homes. Then last year we went out with them into Knaresborough and visited as many shops and businesses as we could, including the swimming pool, fire station, library and so forth. Bringing Mary and Joseph around our town was a joy  not only for us as we shared the Love of Christ with our Community but also, for many whom they visited it was joyful too. They were very well received. It was also an opportunity to  initiate conversations about the meaning of Christ’s birth and its relevance in today’s world.

This year they have been visiting organisations, charities, places of work and schools etc. The visits go on till Christmas Eve when they return at last again to out church and we celebrate with the ” Posada Service”.  (4.00pm till 4.45pm).  All are most welcome to attend. It will be followed by refreshments and finish in time for those who wish, to attend the town’s Nativity Play at 6.00pm.

We thank all those who have taken Mary and Joseph out and about and those who have received them into their places of work. We pray that the Spirit and meaning of Christmas may have entered many hearts.
