One of my peculiarities [and we all have them] is that I often burst into song at the least suggestion of a song lyric. I can be watching a TV programme and in a dramatic moment the dialogue brings a song to mind and however inappropriate to the mood of the programme, I just have to sing it, usually much to Shelley’s annoyance. I ran past these woods last week and a nonsense song my Gran taught me as a child came bursting out Bluebells are Bluebells… cause Bluebells are blue, [the chorus is amazing].

Interestingly, song lyrics can take us from the place we started where they came to mind, to a completely different place very quickly, I can’t sing Bluebells without thinking about my lovely gran.
The 1st June can’t pass without a quick burst of ‘June is Busting out all Over’ from Carousel [that’s an earworm for you today]. But if we think about the words we sing, it too can bring a different slant to a familiar song. The song starts;
March went out like a lion A whippin’ up the water in the bay Then April cried and stepped aside And along come pretty little May! May was full of promises But she didn’t keep ’em quickly enough for some And a crowd of doubtin’ Thomases Was predictin’ that the summer’d never come
As we go through the months of our life we can easily associate these lyrics firstly with the darkness and often storms of the winter times coming through March and then having to put up with the showers of April, those times it seems to never stop raining on our parade[song cue]. But then along comes May with all its promise of brighter times but we can be disappointed when good times promised don’t come to fruition.
But Christians live in the glorious hope of our Lord Jesus and as our life song moves on…
it’s comin, by gum We can feel it come You can feel it in your heart You can see it in the ground You can see it in the trees You can smell it in the breeze Look around! Look around! Look around!
June is Busting out all over…
The call to believe in the promise from Jesus of life in all its fullness, in the promise that each day brings, in the everyday blessings and in our hope our God who is faithful…
Great is Thy faithfulness Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.
So as we move forward together into the June of our life’s journey, let’s live life under the love of God and in the promise we make to follow his son, our friend and Saviour and be a church that is ‘busting out all over’. Because it’s June!!!
